Honesty, integrity, and high ethical standards are central to the purpose of educating students to take their place within society, as well as within the profession of nursing. This system exists on most college campuses today, however, GBCN is unique as it is governed entirely by students on our campus.
The honor system is made up of student Honor Council members that are selected each fall semester on the basis of faculty recommendations. Before becoming an active member of the Honor Council, training is required to learn proper protocol and procedures involving cases that may come before a hearing panel. The hearing process is a fair and timely process, consistent for all students and for all possible Honor Code violations.
In order for such a system to succeed, each student at the College of Nursing must be committed to upholding the high standards that are inherent in our Honor System, which includes a student's obligation to report violations of the honor code.
The Georgia Baptist College of Nursing community voted in 1993 to establish an all inclusive Honor System that would empower students to take personal responsibility for their behavior. The Honor System, in its entirety, had its inauguration during the 1995-1996 academic year. Today, it remains an integral part of GBCN, and a basis of the type of student nurses and professionals involved at GBCN. |
