ELI Frequently Asked Questions

When do I apply for admission?
We recommend that you apply at least 30 days prior to the beginning date, this will allow you time to apply for a student visa. If there are special circumstances we would be happy to work with you. Please contact us at eli@mercer.edu.

No, the TOEFL is not required for the ELI. The TOEFL is also not required for admission to most Mercer undergraduate programs if you successfully complete the final level of the ELI.

When Will I know if I have been accepted?
The ELI tries to process every complete application within two business days. We will send the acceptance packet by express courier.

From where do most students come?
Like Atlanta, the ELI has a very diverse student population. Most of our students come from Brazil, China, Colombia, South Korea, Poland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, and Venezuela.

Do I need a car, can I take public transportation?
Our Atlanta campus is served by public transportation. ELI students are eligible to purchase discounted monthly passes that provide unlimited bus and train service on Atlanta's Metropolitan Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) system. However, most students prefer to purchase their own cars. The choice will be yours.

Can someone pick me up at the airport?
There are several shuttle services from the Atlanta airport. In addition, MARTA connects the Atlanta airport to other parts of the city by train. The cost for shuttle service varies from $25 to $75 depending on where you are going in the city. If you need transportation from the airport, please let us know at least one week in advance so that we can help you!

Can I purchase food or a meal plan on campus?
Yes, students can add any amount of money to their student identification card, which can be used for campus purchases, including food.

How much is health insurance?
It's free! There is no additional fee for the required health insurance if you enter the country on an F-1 visa. You will find out more about your health insurance during your orientation.
