Seville, SPAIN |
Learn Spanish language and culture among the Sevillanos! Seville is at the historical crossroads of European and Moorish cultures. Sevillan culture is steeped in tradition but has a lively, cosmopolitan flair. Mercer students find their cultural adjustment to Seville an easy one. Imagine yourself as a student during the famous Semana Santa (Holy Week). During this week in early spring, there are nightly candlelit processions in each quarter of the city. Men carry religious figures on large, ornately decorated platforms and are followed by hooded penitents, musicians, and crowds of the faithful. After Holy Week comes the April Fair, which features parades, bullfights, music, and dance both popular sevillana and flamenco. Seville is perfect for the development of your language proficiency and cultural knowledge.
