Office of Research Compliance (ORC)

The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) provides support and training for Mercer's faculty members, researchers, students, and staff in the regulatory requirements for the conduct of scientific research. The Office of Research Compliance is responsible for the development and implementation of university policies related to the use of human subjects in research, the use of animals in research, conflicts of professional interests, misconduct in science, and other regulatory compliance programs. The Office of Research Compliance also supports the University community in promoting the responsible conduct of research investigations.

Research activities are governed by a number of regulatory and compliance committees imposed by federal and state laws. Non-compliance can result in severe penalties to the institution and in some instances to the individual. It is the responsibility of all faculty members to be familiar with university policy as it relates to those areas of research requiring compliance with government regulations. The following are some areas that are commonly identified with certain research activities of faculty, staff, or students that are regulated:

Compliance Areas:

Conduct of Research, Conflict of InterestMisconduct of Research,
Institutional Animal Care and Use(IACUC), Institutional Review Board(IRB)-Human Subjects Research
