Alcohol  

Alcohol is used often in social situations. The central nervous system depressant effects may lead to impaired judgment and loss of self-control. Drinking becomes a problem when alcohol is used excessively, or to avoid situations.

Symptoms
 
  • nausea and vomiting
  • rapid heart rate
  • impaired judgment
  • decrease muscle control
  • loss of consciousness
  • risk of death with overdose
  • headache and malaise
   
Signs of Alcohol Abuse
 
  • drinking to get drunk
  • personality changes
  • high tolerance level
  • preoccupation with drinking
  • alcohol-related social problems
  • loss of memory
  • denying or hiding drinking
   
Care of An Intoxicated Person
 
  • have the person rest
  • if vomiting occurs, turn the person on his/her side
  • speak softly and give explanations
  • don't give drugs or drinks to try to sober the person up
  • don't argue with or laugh at the person
  • never let a drunk person drive
  • get medical assistance if the person becomes unconscious
