- acetaminophen or ibuprofen for relief of discomfort or fever (don't take aspirin)
- take decongestants for nasal congestion
- antihistamines may help decrease runny nose
- cough suppressants for relief of cough at night
- drink plenty of liquids
- throat lozenges for sore throat
- gargle with salt water (1 tsp. salt in 1/2 glass warm water) for sore throat
- wash hands frequently to help prevent spread of infection
- avoid smoking or smoke filled environments
- get extra rest
