- throbbing pain, that may be accompanied by nausea or vomiting
- change in vision or spots before the eyes, dizziness, or tingling (migraine headaches)

- take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to relieve discomfort
- apply ice pack or warm cloth (whichever is more comfortable) to the back of neck
- rest in darkened room
- relaxation techniques or massage
- rest eyes if caused by eyestrain
- eat a nutritious snack if headache caused by hunger
