Vaginitis is inflammation of the vagina that may be caused by bacteria, yeasts, or allergy or chemicals. Sexually tranxmitted diseases may cause vaginitis (see STD section). Fungus, such as yeast, may cause a thick white discharge with itching. Bacterial vaginosis may be caused by on overgrowth of normal vaginal bacteria. The discharge with bacterial vaginosis is usually a thin, grayish white with a fishy odor.
