Referral Services
There are times when Counseling Center services are unavailable, such as during breaks and official University holidays. There are also some mental health-related services that the Counseling Center is unable to provide. These include, but may not be limited to, the following:
The counselors will, however, assist students with referrals to off-campus agencies and health care professionals. The referral process requires sharing of information and completion of paperwork. Services provided by agencies and professionals outside of Mercer will most likely involve fees. In many cases, health insurance will cover some of the cost. In order for the Mercer Student Health Program to assist in paying for services, referrals must be made by the Counseling Center or Campus Health Care Services staff. More information may be obtained by contacting one of the counselors or Campus Health at (678) 547-6130. It is ultimately the responsibility of the student to pay for such services received.
Counseling services are only available for current Mercer students. Counselors will provide a list of area resources to former students, alumni, and employees upon request.
Other Services
The Counseling Center staff has access to print and online resources to assist students in gathering information about and dealing with specific mental health and personal growth issues. Personality and interest inventories are available to facilitate personal growth and understanding.
In addition, Mercer counselors are available as workshop presenters for University organizations, departments, and classes. Students and faculty are encouraged to contact the counselors when information about mental health topics is needed.
