Larry L. McSwain
Professor of Ethics and Leadership
Dr. Larry L. McSwain is the Professor of Ethics and Leadership. A graduate of Oklahoma State University, he then received his Bachelor of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Doctor of Sacred Theology from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and completed post-graduate study at the Graduate Theological Union and University of California, Berkeley. Prior to his arrival at McAfee, he was a Senior Fellow, University Commons, Mercer University. He was also Professor of Church and Community, Dean of the School of Theology and Provost of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as President of Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. Dr. McSwain teaches Leadership, Christian Ethics and electives in Church Conflict, Leadership and Baptist Ethics, in which he loves to help students understand and lead congregations to fulfill their mission in whatever context they find themselves.
Dr. McSwain serves as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Consortium for Global Education, was named in the Marquis Who’s Who in Religion (2007), and was recently installed to the Watkins Christian Foundation Chair of Ministry. He has published more than thirty articles, book chapters, and co-authored three books. Mercer University Press will publish Twentieth Century Shapers of Baptist Social Ethics edited by Dr. McSwain in January 2008 and he is currently writing a biography of Dr. Jimmy Allen, long-time Baptist pastor and denominational leader.
Dr. McSwain is a member of Northside Drive Baptist Church in Atlanta where he is a member of the finance committee, the technology committee and shares Church School teaching. In addition, he has four grandchildren, another soon to be born, a wonderful wife, Sue, and they have an adorable Yorkshire Terrier named Prince William.
