The Reverend Doctor Mark W. Thompson
The Reverend Doctor Mark W. Thompson received the call to preach in April 1984. He was licensed to preach on November 20, 1989 under Presiding Elder Reverend William L. Scarborough. He was admitted on trial to the 116th Session of Atlanta North Georgia Conference in June 1990 under Presiding Bishop John H. Adams. He was ordained a Deacon on May 22, 1992 at the 118th Session of the Atlanta North Georgia Conference and Itinerant Elder at the 120th Session of the Atlanta North Georgia Conference in June 11, 1994.
Doctor Thompson’s education includes BA Mass Communication with minor in English, Black Studies from Akron University, Akron, Ohio; Master in Divinity with a concentration in Psychology of Pastor Care and Counseling from Turner Theological Seminary at the Interdenominational Theological Center. Dr. Thompson graduated with honors and was the recipient of the John Hurst Adams Award for Academic Excellence. Dr. Thompson was awarded as the 2000 Outstanding Special Pastor’s Award presented by the Atlanta North GA Conference, and the recipient of the 2002 Distinguished Alumnus Award from Turner Seminary. Dr. Thompson completed his Doctorate of Ministry Degree at United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio, concentrating in Spirituality and the Practice of Ministry.
Dr. Mark W. Thompson is the Founder and Senior Pastor of Redemptive Life Christian Fellowship, Inc., an interdenominational church. Dr. Thompson further pastored the New Bethel AME Church in Lithonia, Georgia for a little over ten years where the church grew from a semi-circuit location to over two thousand members. Dr. Thompson pastored the historic Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, as well as the historic Allen Temple in Cincinnati, Ohio. Prior to Dr. Thompson’s assignment to the pastorate, his ministerial experience included Choir Director/President of Yo-Au-Cho (Young Adult Choir) and President of the Male Chorus at Saint Paul AME Church, Columbus, Ohio. At Saint Philip AME Church, Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Thompson was Choir Director of the Male Chorus and Choir Number One, Bible School Teacher, New Member Orientation Instructor, Assistant Youth Pastor and Assigned Pastor of Georgia Technical Institute.
Dr. Thompson is married to the former Stephanie Denise Robinson and they have two children Mark Lee and Brandi Renee Thompson. Their son Mark is married to Franchesca and they have two children, Onexia Jewell and Mark Lee. Their daughter Brandi is currently a licensed Social Worker and has earned a Master of Social Work Degree from The University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia.
Dr. Thompson states that his objective as a Minister is to serve and minister to all God’s children, by teaching, preaching, and spreading the liberating Gospel of Jesus Christ. Further, to help persons develop into their intended holistic and spiritual persons in order to have a deeper relationship with God and life fulfillment.
