The 2008-2009 GrandKids Arts Education Series features a variety of professional performing arts. Prior to visiting The Grand Opera House, participating schools will be provided with lesson plans, GrandKids video workshops on DVD and GrandKids Gazettes that correspond with the performances. The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley Monday-Wednesday, October 27-29 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
Stanley Lambchop is your ordinary ten-year-old, but he wants to travel the world and do something amazing. One night, the bulletin board on the wall above Stanley's bed comes loose and falls right on top of Stanley! The next morning, Stanley wakes up flat. In a whirlwind musical travelogue based on the popular children's book, Stanley scours the globe for a solution to his unusual problem.
Beakman Live! Wednesday-Friday, January 14-16 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
Beakman Live! is a live stage spectacle, based on the Emmy winning children’s science educational TV show, Beakman’s World, featuring large-scale, wacky science demonstrations with plenty of audience participation with Beakman’s trademark goofy humor. Paul Zaloom, as the eccentric, wacky scientist Beakman, dazzles and amazes his fellow humans with a series of death-defying and belief-suspending demonstrations of intriguing scientific principles. By showing kids of all ages how to perform simple experiments using household items, Beakman Live! helps kids discover for themselves how the world works.
Songs from the Soul Tuesday-Thursday, March 10-12 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.
This revue of African-American music from slave songs to jazz to blues to rap is not only toe-tapping entertainment, but also a vital history lesson that teaches pride, responsibility and respect. The songs illuminate our past and our present as we learn of their transforming impact on our American culture.
